Supreme Art

The Supreme Master Ching Hai has once again painted a brilliant picture of the new era of humanity in Her latest, tenth-generation Celestial Jewelry designs -- " Millennium Beauty." More and more people are experiencing the essence of "The Sun of Life" during the new millennium as they follow the powerful love of Master's "Embracing Light" to go beyond the boundary of "King of the Three Worlds," obtaining liberation from karma and transmigration on their way to "The House of the Master." Many of these individuals have attained sainthood seated on flying "Millennium Lotus," and crossed "The Bridge to Paradise" through the blessings bestowed by the "Rainbow of Creation" as they return to the eternal Kingdom of God.

<Master's words>

The Universal Network

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai

Houston, Texas, U.S.A. November 13, 1993 (Originally in English)

All the answers come from ourselves. We are the wisest and also the most ignorant, depending on our own choice. If we are whole, united, then we are strong. It's the same with the physical dimension: united we stand, divided we fall. It's very simple, but very wise. Similarly, in the spiritual dimension, if we are alone, we are very weak, lonely, and afraid. If we are united with the whole universe of which we are a part, we are strong. Since we are a part of it, we must be connected with the whole, somehow. Think about it. Is it not so? Then why don't we try to find the way to use this connection to work? It's a network. Once you realize that we are in the network, everything you do has the support of the whole cosmic power and that power is great; it is strong. That's how we can accomplish many things.

Report from Toronto, Canada

1999 Report Card

[Toronto] In the southwest corner of Toronto, an unassuming, semi-detached storefront duplex is the home of the Toronto Center of The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association. Brothers and sisters (and some children) regularly attend meditation sessions and retreats there. Group meditation is usually preceded by Master's English language videos, which are simultaneously translated into Aulacese through earphones. For special announcements, Chinese translation is often supplied as well.
To share Master's teachings, we held two open seminars during 1999 to enable the people of Toronto to experience Her honesty, humor, and inspired wisdom via videotape, one of which was held at the Scarborough Metro Square Center and the other at Toronto's Brentwood Library.
In the summer of 1999, the Toronto Center was also represented at a booth we prepared for the 15th annual Vegetarian Food Fair. This event, sponsored by the Toronto Vegetarian Association, is one of the largest of its kind in the northern hemisphere. In 1999, the Toronto Center also made various financial contributions to local charitable organizations. To commemorate Supreme Master Ching Hai Day, contributions were made on February 22 and October 25 to the United Way, The Canadian National Institute for the Blind, the Alzheimer Society, the Multiple Sclerosis Society,The Easter Seal Society, Covenant House, and Interval House. In addition, the Toronto Center sent money for the relief of disasters around the world, including the Kosovo conflict, the earthquakes in Turkey and Formosa, and the floods in India and Au Lac. Finally, in 1999, Toronto fellow initiates contributed generously to the homeless during the holiday season. The Easter Seal Society, Covenant House, and Interval House. Finally, in 1999, Toronto fellow initiates contributed generously to the homeless during the holiday season.
The vegetarian food at the Toronto Center is always a high point during our celebrations and retreats. In addition, we have frequent pot lucks where recipes are shared, the latest in textured vegetable protein foods are made available, and cooking demonstrations are held. We cherish our kitchen volunteers!
Food and fun figured prominently in the Center's annual picnic in July 1999. Everyone, including the guests we welcomed from the Ottawa, London and Windsor Centers, had a great time joining in the activities: volleyball, soccer, kids' games, a challenging walk through the forest, and swimming at a small, sandy beach near Toronto. Lively conversation and laughter prevailed everywhere. At the same time, the results of our meditative lifestyle were apparent in all of the activities. The qualities most obvious were care and cooperation, a lack of selfishness and ego, and a genuine love and will to communicate.
The Toronto Center is a most important part of our lives, even when we only visit it once a week for meditation and lunch. It is here that we receive total support and commitment from our group of sincere members searching for Truth. This sense of oneness becomes a potent source of inspiration for us all. The Center has become a microcosm, our own "small heaven," where our spiritual, intellectual and physical lives are brought together and shown in the most constructive light.

Moving Forward by the Grace of Master's Blessings

[Kathmandu] At the turn of the millennium, through the grace of Master's blessings, the Kathmandu Center has begun to move forward steadily. At the start of the new year, fellow practitioners held a small retreat and discussed ways to make the Center strong. We found that all of us had made some degree of spiritual progress during the previous year.
Now, the flow of fellow practitioners and new visitors has increased at the Center. Each Saturday, we hold a group meditation session, and all of us, Convenient Method practitioners and initiates alike, feel the new and heightened energy at the Center. Master's blessing has worked its magic.
Recently, one of our brother initiates learned that a translated version of Master's teachings from the sample booklet recently had been published verbatim in the spiritual column of a local weekly newspaper in three different issues. Later we thanked the columnist and the editor for helping us to share Master's teachings in this way.

Report from Australia Gold Coast Exhibition

[Brisbane] Shortly after entering the new millennium, the Brisbane Center again participated in the annual 4-day Exhibition held on January 6-9, 2000. Most of the visitors seemed to have some knowledge of spiritual practice, and thus it was easy for initiates to introduce Master's teachings. Each year, Brisbane's initiates participate in many festivals and exhibitions and hold seminars to introduce Master's teachings, and these events are warmly received by the local residents.

Taipei International Book Exhibition

[Taipei] The largest international book fair in Asia was held from February 16-21 at the Taipei World Trade Center. This six-day exhibition attracted more than 400,000 visitors. During the event, The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association Publishing Company Ltd. sponsored a beautiful and elegantly decorated booth. The focus of widespread attention, the booth drew many visitors, all of whom received exquisitely printed "lucky millennium" bookmarks. The following is a report about the booth from a Formosan newspaper:

Supreme Master Ching Hai Dazzles Book Fair with Unique and Glamorous Posters

Reporter Chen Ling-fang from Taipei

During the Taipei International Book Exhibition held at the Taipei World Trade Center, the most eye-catching among the exhibits in the area - including those by Buddhist publishers such as Foguang Cultural Enterprise, Dharma Drum Mountain, and Indra-jala - were the huge TV and wide selection of publications presented by The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association Publishing Co.'s booth in Area C, designated for general interest books. Many dazzling posters of Master Ching Hai were suspended over the heads of fascinated book lovers at the fair, showing Her dressed in glamorous attire and wearing beautiful make-up. As in Her many posters and publications, She reflected the distinctive style that makes Her stand out from other masters and spiritual leaders.
The Supreme Master Ching Hai, although at first creating controversy in the traditional Buddhist world when She offered a "non-religious" spiritual method in "The Key of Immediate Enlightenment," today has countless disciples around the world. Although She is now overseas, Her Formosan disciples did not miss the opportunity to share Her teachings through this fair.
According to Her publishing company, Master was born with many talents. She not only excels in painting and poetry but has also recently been designing fashionable clothing and jewelry. Often dressed in these self-designed works of art, She is acclaimed by Her disciples as "The Beautiful Saint."

Report from Montreal, Canada

Lunar New Year Celebration Exhibit and Master's Gift Distribution to the Needy

[Montreal] On January 23, a celebration for Lunar New Year was held at Montreal's Palais des Congrès. There, a booth was prepared by the Montreal Center of The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association. Our exhibit attracted many visitors, who caught sight of Master's videos being shown on two large television screens located in the booth.
Throughout the day, we spoke with many people. Some expressed interest in pursuing a vegetarian diet, some wished to listen to Master's music, and some simply wanted to admire the beauty of Her artistic designs and creations.
We also spoke with Mr. Jacques Saada, a representative of the Prime Minister of Canada, he is a Liberal Deputy, and Commandant Masson, Chief of the Montreal Urban Police Force, both of whom visited our booth accompanied by their spouses. The Chief of Police asked a sister initiate for a summary of the Convenient Method practice, while the Deputy Minister stated that he was particularly impressed with the serenity he could see shining through our eyes. He added that, in fact, it was the great tranquillity emanating from our booth that had attracted him to it. After speaking with us, he took a flyer and departed with the words: "You will see me again, for sure, as soon as my schedule allows it!"
At 4:00 PM, we distributed Master's New Year's gifts to the less fortunate, particularly elderly people living alone and families with more than four small children. Members of the Aulacese, Chinese and Western communities all benefited. Expressions of joy and happiness could be seen on the smiling faces of the fortunate gift recipients as they departed from our booth.

Quan Yin Method Retrace the "Word" of God to Go Back Our Origin

Radio Interview "SAFM" "Woman Today"

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai

Cape Town, South Africa December 2, 1999

(Originally in English)

M.C.: Our next guest has been described as "a living, enlightened saint." It's said She has crossed boundaries and conceptions of spirituality. As a young person, She spent Her life seeking ways to help the world's pain of the sick and the suffering through the Red Cross and through reaching out to those in need. Through Her own path in the Himalayas, She finally achieved what is known in the East as "perfect enlightenment." Since then, She has been teaching to others the power of Quan Yin meditation and through the Meditation Association organized relief efforts for suffering people and communities throughout the world. What She describes as Her humble efforts has been acknowledged by the international community with awards including the "World Spiritual Leadership Award" and the award for "Promotion of Human Rights."
She is in Cape Town right now as part of the Parliament of the Worlds Religions. We are very pleased to have Supreme Master Ching Hai on the phone with us. Tell me, what is the message that You have brought with You to this Parliament of the Worlds Religions in Cape Town?
M: It's the same as time immemorial -- that we have God within us and since God is within us, it is easy to find Hirm. And should we forget how, I could show them.
M.C.: I think one of the things that You plan to show people while You are here is Quan Yin meditation. Can You explain what it is and how it differs from any other sorts of meditation?
M: This is an ancient Method, which has been forgotten by many of us, but has been revived in every time in different countries. Some lucky people are able to reconnect with it again. "Quan Yin" is actually just the name in Chinese for the "Word" in the Bible. The "Word" is the spoken word of God, and also means the energy, the vibration, or the melody of Heaven, which creates all things and to which all things will return. So, in order to return to where we came from, we have to rely on this "Word" or the vibration of Heaven, which creates all things. That's where we came from, and "Quan Yin" means contemplating on this "Word."
M.C.: You mention that this "Word" is found in the Bible, and I believe that when You were a child,You were brought up in both the Buddhist and Christian principles.
M. Right.
M.C.: How do You manage to equate the two?
M: It's just that I've been looking for it all my life. I studied different religious Bibles and found that they pointed to one same Truth: that God is within us. We call Hirm by a thousand names, but we still can find Hirm in one unity if we know how. And there is a way; we just forgot.

Enlightenment Takes Places in Seconds

M.C.: I know that You personally found enlightenment in the Himalayas. Tell me, was it a very long process?
M: It has been very long until that point, but enlightenment takes place in seconds.
M.C.: Really?
M: Yes.
M.C.: So the actual moment when it happened was just a few seconds?
M: Yes, and we can continue to be enlightened every day -- more and more so if we put in more effort. We will know more about God if we go deeper inside every day.
M.C.: Apart from being an Enlightened Being, another thing that You are, amongst many other things, is an artist. I believe that You make very beautiful jewelry. How does that work to improve Your soul?
M: It doesn't improve my soul. It's just that my soul has improved and then the artistic creativity came. Once we are even partially enlightened, all the dormant talent and ability within ourselves will be awakened. That's normal, because we have God within us. God is awakened and then we can do many things.

God Can Be Found Everywhere

M.C.:There is one thing that I would like to ask You very briefly. You found enlightenment in the Himalayas. Is it necessary to go up some of the highest mountains in the world or can you find enlightenment in a slum?
M: Immediately, yes, and here. I'm here to offer it to people at their doorstep. They don't have to go to the Himalayas like I did.
M.C.: Thank You very much. I do hope that You enjoy Your stay here at the Parliament of the Worlds Religions.
M: Bless you, Madame and bless your country.

Interview from Radio 720 "Believe It Or Not"

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai

November 28, 1999 Johannesburg, South Africa

(Originally in English)

M.C.: We are now going across to the lady that I was talking about earlier, The Supreme Master Ching Hai. In the eyes of the world, She is seen as many things. She's seen as an artist, as a spiritual teacher, a humanitarian, and a poet. Certain people who know Her personally describe Her not only as being a living enlightened saint, full of wisdom and compassion, but also someone with a delightful sense of humor. We are very privileged and very pleased to have Supreme Master Ching Hai joining us tonight.
I am delighted that you're joining us on the program. Now, first of all, because You are coming here new to South Africa, so people don't yet know a lot about You and they may not know of Your work. I would like You to describe, what does being a "Supreme Master" mean and "Supreme Master" of what?
M: This is what the people in my group call me. We have many masters in our group also, so in case people get us mixed up, they call me the "chief one," just like "superintendent." (Master laughed)

The Only Path to God is Inside

M.C.: Tell us about Your life because You don't follow one particular religion, do You?
M:We have only one religion, and so different names do not make any difference to us, really.
M.C.: What do You mean? What is that one religion?
M: We worship one God. In different religions, we describe Hirm with different names. That's according to my knowledge. So, there's no need to make another religion or to say I follow one and forsake another.
M.C.: So, what do You do? What is Your message? What is Your work?
M: The message is from the Most High, not from myself as a person, but from the highest most loving Power of the universe; it is that we should know God. The purpose of our coming here is to know Hirm. Therefore the earlier we know, the better, so we can find peace within ourselves and we can make peace outside in the world.
M.C.: Why do we need yet someone else telling us this? There are so many religions; there are so many priests, there are imams, there are rabbis, there are all sorts of people, -- why You?
M: Everyone is doing some wonderful job in a different way. Even if there are more people like me, it's probably still not enough to remind our brothers and sisters that we should not forget God, because some of us do. And not only reminding by word of mouth, but we will also show them God face to face so that they can believe and remember Hirm, and be happy again.

Quan Yin Method is the Easiest Way to God

M.C.: How do You show someone God face to face?
M: "God" is an abstract term to call our Creator, the Most High. We could see Hirm the way Moses has seen Hirm, the way Jesus, St. John, and other ancient Masters have seen Hirm. When God manifests to us within our heavenly vision, we can see Hirm as Light, brilliant Light, as thousands of suns. Or we can hear Hirm talk in a Voice as mighty as the thunder, as great as the ocean waves, etc. There are much more when we can calm our minds and go within the kingdom of God within ourselves. We can experience a lot more about God; Hes manifests in many different ways.
M.C.: How do You bring people to that revelation -- to that understanding?
M: I do not have to bring people to that state because we all have the kingdom of God within ourselves, as it says in the Bible. The moment we calm our mind in a special way -- there is a way to calm the mind quicker than other ways, and our way is the quickest way you can calm the mind and remember the kingdom of God. It happens almost immediately.
M.C.: How do You do that, Master Ching Hai?
M: It is not I that do this; it's the Father that uses this physical instrument. When anyone is ready and wants to come to Hirm again, then Hes will just do that. Hes will reconnect Hirmself to Hirmself within us.
M.C.: You make it sound very easy.
M: Yes, it is absolutely easy, Madame.
M.C.: Because there are so many people who struggle with faith.
M: I know that. It is because they don't know the easiest way. We can struggle for thousands of years and not see God, but if we know it, then it's a second, a fraction of a second.
M.C.: You said if you know the way, how does one know it?
M:Some people who know the way show us.
M.C.: For example?
M: For example, I know the way; I can show people the way to concentrate, the way to reconnect ourselves with Ourselves, with the greatest God.

Where Else Should We Come From but Heaven?

M.C.:You talk about the Bible, but the background I have read about You says in fact that You are not a Christian, You are not a Buddhist, whatever, but You quote the Bible.
M: I am a believer of all religions because I have found that the essence of all the religious scriptures point toward one thing -- that is we have one God. We don't even need the Bible to know this. There must be a Creator for all the beautiful things that we see with our naked eyes; but there are more beautiful things, which we can see with our spiritual eyes.
M.C.: For example again?
M: For example, we can ascend to heaven and see that the scenery, the life, and the beings there are a thousand-fold more beautiful.
M.C.: How do we know? Who has been there and come back and reported?
M: We can go there any time; I mean, the ones who practice this way of heaven. There is a way to go back there; that is the way we came from. If we came from heaven, we must be able to go back there.
M.C.: But how do we know we came from heaven?
M:We can prove that to ourselves by going back there to look. Where else should we come from? (Master laughs) Suppose we don't come from heaven, where else should we come from? Should we come from hell? We are the children of God. Jesus told us that; Buddha told us that; Mohammed told us that, and we can even prove that to ourselves. If God created us, we are the children of God. We must come from heaven.
M.C.: There are a lot of people who don't believe in God and who don't believe that God created us.
M: Right. Well, I don't argue with these people. Sooner or later, they will have to believe. Maybe they believe in their hearts, but they do not want to admit it. Sometimes, it's fashionable to be different; it's okay.
M.C.:Okay, I want to go to the lines. I'm talking to Supreme Master Ching Hai Who's going to be attending the Parliament of Religion. She is a very, very well-known speaker. She travels throughout the world speaking about enlightenment, speaking about God, and trying to convince people and show people the way that they too can experience God.
M.C.: Sister, I don't know if You heard the caller's thoughts?
M: Not really.
M.C.: What he was basically saying is that it doesn't matter what creation myth you choose to believe in or the old stories or whatever, the Creator exists in each one of us, and we find Him or Her our own way.
M: Right. That's correct.

To Know God is Easier Than Breathing

M.C.: So, You are going to be talking and giving workshops -- what sort of thing will You be doing at the workshops?
M: I probably will introduce to people the sure way to heaven. If people are interested and are ready to know their Origin, to know our Father or Mother, then I will show them in a practical way. We will sit down together and let the God within us connect each other again.
M.C.: You make it all sound so easy!
M: Madam, believe me, it's easier than breathing.
M.C.: I am playing "devil's advocate" here, You understand.
M: No. No. It's fine, please ask anything.
M.C.: There are so many thousands of people listening, who are saying maybe the things You say could be interpreted as arrogance. You know the way; therefore, You can show people the way or You're saying "Do as I do, and we can all be saved and go to heaven." There are a lot of intellectual questions posed here.
M: God is not to be argued or even to be discussed. We just sit down and I tell you, "Now you will see God," and that's how You do. It's as easy as that. The Bible says that the kingdom of God is within you, right?
M.C.: Yes.
M: The Bible says that we are the temple and the Holy Spirit lives within us, so who else is in there but God? If God lives within yourself, isn't that easy to find? Hes is there already.
M.C.: Yes, if you believe in the Bible. What about the people who prefer to believe in the Koran or the "Bhagavad Gita," etc.?
M: It's the same, Madame. It points to the same enlightenment, of knowing the Source of ourselves. You can call it Buddha, Godhood, Allah -- it doesn't matter. It is just like we call our loved ones by different names -- sweetheart and honey-pie. And in different languages, they even use different names. We don't translate all these names, and then we argue with each other whether Buddha is higher or Christ is higher. In fact, both of these terms are Hebrew and Sanskrit terms for the same thing -- "Enlightened Saint."

Everything is Made from the Word

M.C.: One of the things You do, (I'm reading from Your pamphlet) You initiate sincere spiritual aspirants into the Quan Yin Method of meditation. This event has been described as opening of the wisdom eye and sudden or immediate enlightenment by the great Master above. Will You talk us through this Quan Yin Method of meditation?
M: Quan Yin is just the Chinese term for "Word," vibration, heavenly sound, or melody. In our worldly language, it is very difficult to unify the meaning of the same thing, so I would refer to the Bible, which states, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Everything that was made was made by the "Word," and nothing was made that was not made by this. So, in order to find our Origin, we have to return to where we came from; we have to trace back the "Word" that was with God and that was even God. That's what we are made of. Also, everything else in this universe is made of this Essence, of the tremendous energy of the universe, which we could call God Almighty. When Hes manifests in this world, Hes dwells within us as a human being and manifests materially as a human being so that we can see each other. Or Hes manifests in the flowers, the food we eat, the fruit that we like, etc. These are the material aspects of God.
M.C.: What about this Quan Yin Method of meditation?
M: "Quan Yin" means the "Word" of God. We retrace the "Word" of God to go back to be united with Hirm. Quan Yin is just the Chinese name. You see, this is how we argue again, because the "Word" is "Quan Yin." Quan Yin means contemplate on this "Word" of God, on this vibration of the Universal Power, which makes all beings. But then I started in Formosa, and this word is Chinese, they just keep using it as a habit.

Manifestations of the Most High

M.C.: Let's go to the lines. Sharon?
S. I've heard when people who have been found clinically dead see the light and experience a great Being, they will see the appropriate person according to their belief system or religion -- like you might meet Moses, or Jesus, or Buddha. I've just spoken to a friend who saw You in Cape Town and You spoke about death and attitude towards death, and I just need You to discuss this.
M.C.: In other words, where do people go when they die and do they meet people they know?
S: No, what I've heard is that if you're a Christian, you'll meet the Christ, if you are a Buddhist, you'll see the Buddha.
M.C.: Thanks, Sharon.
M.C.: Basically, Sharon wants to know about "death" and "after death." She was suggesting that She had heard that if you are a Hindu, you are going to a Hindu heaven and meet Hindu saints and gods and goddesses. If you are Christian, you'll meet Christ. So, it's very culturally orientated, culturally focused. She wants to know Your views on "after death."
M: In short, it is partially correct what she has heard. The Most High manifests in different ways; Hes also could manifest as Christ or Buddha, in case that person who dies does not know another religion outside his own. It is also fine, because it's all God's manifestations, anyhow. But for example, in our group, sometimes we meditate in the way that we die daily; we leave the physical body for a while and come back. And the person, who meditates, even if he is a Christian, sometimes sees the Buddha in his vision and learns with Him, or sometimes the Buddhist has the honor to meet Christ so that he can know that God is One. But in the case of a person who dies, because he is used to Christ or Buddha, God doesn't want to confuse him. If He wants to greet him to heaven, then He will send whoever is the representative or the master that that person believes in. For the beginning, and later, he will learn to know that all Masters are sons of God and They say the same thing. They teach human beings to remember the greatest One.
M.C.: We're going to take a very short break. ........
Welcome back to "Believe It Or Not." I'm Kate Turkington, grappling with the meaning of life and meeting God. Our guest tonight, The Supreme Master Ching Hai, has utmost faith in Her calling and in the facts. She said that it's a fact that She can reintroduce people to God and show them to heaven. I'm grappling with some of these concepts, Ching Hai, I must tell You. I'm going straight to the lines and talk to Johan. Johan, your question?
J: (not clear)
M.C.: Johan wants to know how did Your insight come to You? Was it a revelation? Did they come over a period of time? What was the process?
M: It is a kind of revelation, but it is a continuous revelation on a daily basis, every time, not just one time. And it comes because of the initiation into this way of Heaven. There is a way for everything in this world; there's a way to drive a car, a way to play football, a way to access the Internet. Similarly, there is a way to heaven and some people know it. It's just like a science, very precise. And everyone, I repeat, everyone can have this experience of heaven and develop himself and his connection with God every day after he knows how. It just takes about half an hour to explain to him what to remember, what to pay attention to, and where to remember to find God. Because we look in a different direction, we don't see God. It is just like if you are talking to me and I talk to someone else, then I cannot hear you, but if I talk in the receiver and listen to your voice, then I know you are there and you know I'm there. It's just that there is a way and many of us have forgotten. God has not sent us here without a map to go back Home.

Asceticism Does Not Denote a Master

M.C.: Let's talk to Ivan.
I. I have been reading the booklet, "The Key of Immediate Enlightenment." It is a wonderful booklet. There's hardly anything that one can disagree with. It's all the same, the spiritual teachings, the same kind of moral code that most of the religions are teaching. So, this is very, very much in line with my own belief. In my previous observation, they all have a lot in common, and what Master Ching Hai is looking for is the common thread that runs through all religions. There is only one thing that confuses me about You, Master Ching Hai, apart from being incredibly beautiful, I mean You can't help that...
M: You have seen me in person?
I: You are an incredibly beautiful person physically in Your pictures and so on.
M: Thank you.
I: Most of the spiritual Masters that I know about like Moses, Jesus, Buddha, and all the other Buddhist masters and the Hindu gurus, and so on, all seemed to have adopted an ascetic way of life.
M: Right. I did that before.
I: You decided to go against the grain by wearing the most incredibly beautiful, ornamental clothes. You don't think this is somehow putting some people off? It doesn't put me off; I can see behind the material packaging, but don't You think this is putting a lot of people off by being unspiritual?
M: Maybe so, sir, but I'm only a servant of God. I have to do absolutely what Hes says even though it's against my liking. And also these things that I design myself, I have to model them.
I: Yes, You design most of these clothes. The only kind of criticism that I could possibly have is that most of them wear simple clothes and all of the beautiful ornamental clothes that You wear. And the other thing is that You refer God as Him. Could You please explain that a little bit more and I will listen on the radio?
M: It can be called "Her" also. It's just that most people call God, "Him," so I just go with the trend so as not to confuse people. Otherwise, God is not a Him or a Her.
Also, a more extended answer to your question is that not all of the gurus are wearing ascetic clothes. For example, the Guru Gobind Singh of the Sikhs wore all kinds of pearls and beautiful clothes. And the Quan Yin Bodhisattva of Buddhism always wore clothes like a princess, for example to cite a few. It depends on the destiny of the Master or the teacher at that time or on the condition of the world at that time, that God has ordained someone to do this or that. But, you are right; I would prefer also a simple life. It's easier.

Enlightenment Releases Dormant Talents

M.C.: You also write poetry and we have some examples of Your poetry in the booklet, and I see that You do celestial artwork. Now, isn't that rather pretentious to call Your artwork celestial? I might call Michelangelo's celestial; I might call Leonardo's celestial, but it seems a very presumptuous word to me to describe one's artwork as celestial.
M: It is because I have inspiration from heaven, so I credited it to Heaven and not my own human ability. I wasn't able to do that before and since God has given me enlightenment, I have been able to do many things, and so I credited that to heavenly grace.
M.C.: And the poetry, would You put down to heavenly grace?
M: No, not all of the poetry is celestial. The poems are my own feelings even before enlightenment and so they are called accordingly. If it is made for God, then of course you can call it celestial or heavenly, but if it was before that, they are just named differently, like "Traces of a Previous Life" or "Love Poetry," "War Poetry." They are just the way they are, and called accordingly.
I also have made poems which are in the name of God; for example, "I Will Forever Love You," and "The Ocean of Love" refer to God, but they are not called celestial poetry.

God Bestowed Title of Supreme Master

M.C.: Okay, let's talk to Edgar. What Edgar wants to know is: Are there other masters, who are preaching either the same message or maybe a different message in other places of the world?
M: There are, yes. There are quite a few, and there are many more in different levels of consciousness and many different levels of understanding about God. But they all try their best to bring humankind's consciousness into a higher level, to make our planet a more beautiful place, and a safer place.
M.C.: I'm still not clear in my mind about this concept of Master and Supreme Master. Where does this title come from?
M: God bestowed it.
M.C.: So, You have decided that God bestowed on You the title of Supreme Master?
M: I have not decided it; Hes told me.
M.C.: So, Hes has told You that You are the Supreme Master?
M: No, it is so people will know that it is Hes Who speaks. It is not a human being who speaks. It's not me, not "I," the physical being that speaks; it is the Master that speaks.
M.C.: So You say to Your followers, "This is not me, Ching Hai speaking; this is the voice of God?"
M: No, the teaching, the One that connects them to heaven again, is God's power; that is from Hirm. No human being can do that.
M.C.: Okay, we're going to take a short break. .........
Welcome back; I'm talking to Supreme Master Ching Hai. "Supreme Master," a God-given title or God-endowed title, it is not something you can earn at a university, in graduate studies, or whatever. Apparently, it is something that you are given.
I would also like You, Supreme Master Ching Hai, to clear up a couple of things in my own mind. You design and sell jewelry. I find that at odds with being such a spiritually enlightened person.
M: Not really, I use the money to travel, to buy airplane tickets and to work for God, and the rest I give to charity for the poor people. There's nothing unspiritual about that. I need to have money to go around to talk to people and to go by airplane and taxi. I cannot take donations because God has told me I can only give, I cannot take.
M.C.: You can sell, but You cannot take?
M: I can only give. I sell, of course; it's my work and my labor. I don't take it away from people.
M.C.: No.
M: I sell, and then I take the money and give it to people; that I can do, but I cannot take donations.

Vegetarian Diet is Less Burdensome to the Soul

M.C.: Your five precepts that You talk about in Your booklet, "The Key of Immediate Enlightenment" - "Refrain from taking the life of sentient beings," would that include flies, cockroaches, and mosquitoes?
M: If we can help it. Otherwise, of course human beings are more precious than insects; we are not to be fanatic. I just advise people to keep their houses clean so they don't have to even do this.
M.C.: "To refrain from speaking what is not true," I think that's true for most creeds.
M: Yes.
M.C.: "Refrain from taking what is not offered."
M: Right. Don't steal; that's what it means.
M.C.: "Refrain from sexual misconduct."
M: No adultery, just like the Bible's commandment.
M.C.: Okay, and "Refrain from the use of intoxicants."
M: No drugs. Refrain from cigarettes even, if possible. But drugs are the most important -- drugs and alcohol which intoxicate you, and cigarettes, slowly abstain.
M.C.: To get back to Your number 1 - "Refrain from taking the life of sentient beings." There is a little rider to this that says, "The keeping of this precept requires a vegan or lacto-vegetarian diet." Can you not see God if you are not vegetarian?
M: No, you can see God the same. It's just that the higher we go, the less baggage we should carry. The animals' energies do tend to drag us a little into a lower kind of energy, so we'd better refrain from it if we want our soul to be less burdened. That's all. But even without a vegetarian diet, we can see God immediately. The people who come to me, the first night or the first day, have not been vegetarian, but they also can see God immediately. I have to let them see so that they can believe, and then of course when they believe in God and when God enters their soul again, they will be purified. They will gladly and willingly be vegetarian also, from then on.

Remember that God is Forever Loving

M.C.: Supreme Master Ching Hai, what message do You have for someone who is listening?
M: Just remember God. Even though you don't see Hirm, Hes is forever merciful. Hes is not a vengeful God; Hes is not jealous God; He is forever loving, She is forever loving, forgiving. So at the time you die, you must remember that God is the only one, and God is forever loving you. Just remember this so that you can go directly to heaven. Do not believe in hell; do not believe in punishment from God. God loves you always, no matter who and what you are because you are Hirm.
M.C.: Just one last question. What does a person see when they see God?
M: Well, he can see many aspects of God because God is infinite. For example, one aspect is the Light and another aspect is the way Hes speaks to you. Hes imparts wisdom to you in a voice that sounds like thunder, in a voice that sounds like the ocean, a voice like melody, a voice that soothes your soul and calms your nerves, that opens your wisdom and endears you to Hirm again, makes you become a saint, makes you become a heavenly being again like you were before. But you also can see Jesus or Buddha, Hiers representatives, the past Masters, and talk to Them and learn from Them.

Cherish the Wisdom of the Elders

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai

Cape Town, South Africa November 28, 1999 (Originally in English)

Teenagers, when they grow up, begin to question their parents' authority and wisdom. And I tell you, they're not always wrong. Most parents have children too young themselves. They are not themselves wise enough to lead other unwise human beings. But the system of our world is like that. So we grow up, many of us being frustrated with our parents, because they want to have the right and authority to tell us what to do. And then we sometimes question that because they are not always right. This is true. But they are authority figures. We cannot argue with them. Yet, we feel frustrated inside. Sometimes younger people have more wisdom than older people, because all of us have wisdom to begin with. It doesn't mean that if you are born later, you have less wisdom. It's not always true. It is because we are born with wisdom, you see!
But then, according to worldly experience, the parents should be a little older in order to understand how to raise their children. But in our society, if you have children, you have to raise them, no matter how old you are, and most people in this society even encourage people to marry early so that they can raise children early while they are strong. They are strong, but they might not be wise. The grandparents should raise the children. The wisdom of the elders is always more reliable, but in this society, when you are old, they throw you in the old age pensioners' home. Bye-bye! And then, young children try to raise other young children, so both are young and inexperienced. And the young parents often lose their tempers as well, because they are frustrated with themselves. They haven't found all the answers that they need. They are busy earning their living, supporting the beginning of their lives, and they have to raise children at the same time, so it is not a very favorable condition for either the kids or the parents. The parents don't have time to learn further because they are too busy raising kids and making money. And the elder who has all the wisdom, strength, tolerance and calmness of those in their mellow years is thrown out of society, his wisdom wasted. Well, the people of our world have a lot to learn, a lot, a lot to learn.

An Elder at Home Is a Boon To the Family

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai

Bangkok, Thailand December 28, 1999 (Originally in Chinese)

Nowadays, people put their elderly relatives in pensioners' home. What a pity it is to relegate these sources of great wisdom to such homes without making use of them! You should not abandon our precious older citizens to old age homes. You should treasure them, for they are the most capable people in society, and we have much to learn from their wisdom and experiences. If you let the older people help you raise your children, the younger generation will become smarter more quickly.
Your children and grandchildren love their grandmas and grandpas most dearly, because the old and the young are highly compatible. Children are simple and naive, and elderly people know many things but do not talk on and on, nag, or try to control them too much. They impose restrictions on their grandchildren when the occasion demands, and let them develop on their own at other times. They are not like young parents, who often talk too much and argue meaninglessly. I think it is best to leave your children in the care of their grandparents as soon as they are born, and then work to sustain the family. Each one has a different job to do. Young parents still need to learn a lot and there is not much that they can teach their children. People in ancient times had great respect for their parents and the elderly, who consequently lived longer. Although the situation is different today, it is all right. You will come to learn about this more over time.

My Grandparents and Me

By sister initiate Ling Gao, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. (Originally in English)

As a child, I lived with my grandparents for about ten years, and wasn't aware of what I was going to miss from my life until both of them passed away.
Although my grandparents were quiet by nature, I always enjoyed conversing with my grandpa. Talking to him was like reading a living history book. He even taught me one of his favorite Elvis Presley songs," Are You Lonesome Tonight," when he was 80. My grandpa also brought many historical events to life for me and gave me the inspiration to explore the unknown world. In addition, he taught me that each individual can make a difference in the world.
There was a sense of peacefulness and homecoming whenever I was around my grandparents. Their room was my shelter. Whenever I had problems outside, just looking at them would dispel my sorrow. God was showing me through them that none of my problems was very important, and that life went on no matter what.
Being so young, I wasn't the one who took care of their daily needs. It was my parents who fed them, put them to bed, gave them their baths, and took them to the hospital. However, my parents were too busy, both at work and at home, to have a meaningful relationship with them.
I miss the presence of my grandparents' quiet endurance and wisdom, and regret not spending enough time with them when they were alive. I think the elderly are some of the greatest treasures in this world. The young can learn a great deal from them, and in return can take care of them when they become physically weak. Perhaps God intended it this way, but without spiritual practice and meditating in the right way, people tend to forget, or just don't have enough energy to deal with the responsibility of caring for older people. If my parents and grandparents had practiced the Quan Yin Method, I believe they would have enjoyed each other's presence much more.

<Master Tells Joke>

The Key To Longevity

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai

Chungli, Formosa, February 25, 1989 (Originally in Chinese)

A medical team once went on a search for the key to longevity, hoping to share its findings with the public. It visited a number of primitive tribes and remote areas, where the inhabitants lived longer than the normal life span and looked younger and more innocent than most people.
On the first leg of its journey, the team visited a tribe of good-looking people. Although some of the tribesmen were well advanced in years, they still looked happy and healthy and had beautiful complexions. "What is your secret?" The doctors asked, "Why is it that you are able to live so long, yet remain young and happy?" They had little to worry about, they said. They had enough to eat, and had no competition, complicated business dealings, or jealousy among them. They just lived together naturally and peacefully. They ate simple food that was neither too spicy nor too sweet. They had no chocolate, for example. They did not even know what candy was, so their teeth were in good condition. (That's what I heard. I don't mean that you cannot eat candy.) So the doctors learned and recorded their findings about the key to longevity, which included not eating too many candies, sweet cookies, or spicy foods, and experiencing no competition, jealousy, business problems, or disputes.
Then the team moved on to another special place, where the inhabitants revealed a new secret in addition to those the team had already recorded: having less physical relations with one's spouse. They stopped having such relations after they had had two or three children. This way, they saved more energy and lived longer. Well, the doctors recorded this, too.
Then they came to a third place. It was more prosperous, exciting, colorful, busy, and noisy, and was enjoying a business boom. The first local person they met was an old man. Despite his elderly looks, white hair, and wrinkled face, he looked fine. With great respect, the doctors asked him what his secret was. He ate, drank, and indulged in daily merrymaking, he said, adding that he also smoked, consumed meat, and had new girlfriends every day. The doctors shook their heads and said, "Wow! This is new to us." The man's comments contradicted all the earlier concepts that they had learned about longevity, which were to eat simply, lead a pure life, and have fewer sexual relations. How come everything was upside down here? In great surprise and admiration, the doctors exclaimed, "Only God knows why this is so!" It was beyond their understanding. So they gave the man a cigarette to make friends with him. Then they took him to a bar, where he drank alcohol as though it were water. The doctors then admired him even more. One of them could not help but ask, "May I ask, uncle, how old you are?" And what was his reply? "Thirty," he said.

The Secret of Master's Good Health

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai

November 13, 1993 Houston, Texas, U.S.A. (Originally in English)

My health is good even though I am fragile, and sometimes I am sick. But my health is good compared to many other people. I have it easy, because I have it with the Spirit. I turn to the highest reservoir of all strength, wisdom and blessing; I don't work alone. I don't work with the limited physical strength and the very narrow brainpower. I work with the greatest storehouse of intelligence; therefore, I am never in conflict. That's why my life is easy.
The lives of all the Quan Yin practitioners who meditate, who quiet down and listen to the advice of the Inner Power, (Master points to Her wisdom eye), are easier, day-by-day. We turn to the greatest strength for help; we don't work with our limited, fragile physical body. When we have trouble, it is because we work with the limited computer, the brain, and we work with the limited muscles, the body. We don't know, and we forsake the higher efficient Power.

<Master's Wonders>

Saying Good-bye to the Wheelchair

By sister initiate Gao from Shanxi, Mainland China

When sister Cui was five years old, she suffered an accidental fall and sustained severe bone fractures. Medical examinations at several hospitals concluded that she had a bone disease called osteoporosis.
Sister Cui could neither stand nor walk. She and her parents were heart-broken. Life and the many dreams she entertained lost their luster as she spent the next five years in a wheelchair. When she saw other children happily going to school, she was overcome by tears of envy. She lost faith and the will to live.
It was during this time of depression and dejection that an old sister knocked on sister Cui's door and offered her a copy of Master's sample booklet. God's great love gave her encouragement and soothed her inner heart. On that very day, sister Cui became a vegetarian. Master's teachings and endless blessings nourished her soul like a spring shower reviving the arid desert after a long drought.
A few weeks later, a miracle took place. The little girl began to walk, supporting herself by pressing her hands against a wall. In December 1995, she received the initiation she had long dreamed about. She followed Master's instructions, practicing with deep sincerity and humility. After some time, she said good-bye to her wheelchair and even learned to ride a bike.
A few months ago, some of our fellow initiates visited sister Cui and found that she was no longer the girl they had carried on their backs to the initiation. Calmly, she told them with a smile, "If I had not met Mommy Ching Hai, I am not sure if I could have found the confidence to live on."
We learned that she was studying English and Japanese by herself at home, and was pretty good at writing. She wants to become great in spirit and follow Master's footsteps by devoting herself to public service.

Master's Tragrance

By a sister initiate from Guangxi, Mainland China

On September 19, 1989, I had a car accident and sustained severe injuries to my cerebellum, or "little brain". I had a CAT scan at a local hospital, and the doctors there informed my family that I was in critical condition. During the next 35 days in the hospital, whenever I closed my eyes, I would see a group of identical saints sitting in a circle, meditating by my bedside, and was convinced that I would live. A head operation was scheduled but postponed several times, when brain surgeons discovered to their astonishment that the hematoma (blood clot) in my cerebellum was shrinking rapidly. The recovery process was taking place faster than in a 20-year-old person. And I was almost 51 then.
As a result, I did not undergo the risky brain surgery, which had a survival rate of only eight percent. I recovered rapidly and returned home. But very soon, I found that I had lost my sense of smell and taste. I could no longer detect odors or flavors.
One day, two months later, I suddenly "sensed" a strong fragrance in my throat during both inhalation and exhalation. Since it was stronger during inhalation, I frequently took deep breaths to enjoy this aromatic smell. I could not tell what it was, for the strong and extraordinary fragrance, which one could only call "perfect", was an unprecedented experience in my 51 year lifetime. It was something out of this world! The fragrance remained with me day and night, but after a few months, I could only detect it occasionally and less strongly, before it finally faded away in May or June of 1991. Then, in 1994, I again experienced this fragrance for a while. Although I was sure that it did not belong to this world, I had no idea where it came from.
In May 1997, I received initiation, and my throat began to "sense" the same incredibly exquisite fragrance again; so did my chest and the back of my mouth. The fragrance was very extraordinary, unique and refreshing, coming from the heart and going directly to the marrow, exactly the same as the fragrance I had sensed in the early 1990s. Sometimes it stays continuously for a few days and sometimes it comes intermittently, but it is almost always with me. If it is not there, when I meditate well or after meditating on the sound for 90 minutes, and also when I watch Master's videotaped lectures, listen to Her audio recordings, read Her books and even when I am about to open Her books, it will come again continuously or intermittently. Even if I'm doing nothing at all, it will also arise naturally.
In fact, at this very moment, while writing this article, I can sense this fragrance in my throat. I know that it is the same experience I had earlier, and that it comes from the same Source. It is the fragrance of Master, God, and the Saints. It proves that Master is not one of us earthly people. She is a Saint from the higher worlds. And I know that this fragrance is a special blessing from Her.
After initiation, when I read the bound edition of the News Magazine, No.1, I learned that Master had been traveling on a lecture tour of Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, and Guangzhou in southeastern China in September of 1989. I realized then that I had an affinity with Her and that it was Her transformation body that had saved me when I was in the hospital, for it was the same fragrance I had sensed during my recovery and after my initiation. Seven years before my initiation, She had allowed me to experience Her presence through the fragrance sent from the heavenly Saints!

<Aphorisms>

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai

(Originally in English)

Should we think that we are great at all, then we are not great.

Brisbane, Australia March 19, 1993

To kill our ego is to merge ourselves with God. When we are one with God, then we lose ourselves. It's as simple as that.

CA, U.S.A. May 27, 1989

Here in this world, the mind controls everything. The preconceived ideas -- the prejudices, the collected data, control everything and make us forget our inborn Nature and that we are not these preconceived ideas. We are not to forget our judgment; we have to find our inborn Wisdom.

CA, U.S.A. May 27, 1989

Being quiet doesn't mean being empty of anything, but quiet of unnecessary burdens and prejudice, quiet of all kinds of nonsense and desires and cravings for impossible things, and quiet in order to be able to be of service, to have intelligence, and for pure Intelligence to appear.

<Letters from the Audience>

I Love Your TV Programs

Excerpt from Letter from Eric Delgadillo

(Originally in English)

Dear Supreme Master Ching Hai:

I watch the TV program "A Journey through Aesthetic Realms" every Saturday at 8:30AM on KSCI Channel 18. And I wanted to write in and give You feedback that the programs are really, really nice.
The thing that attracted me first about the TV program were Your words. Something in my heart resonated and I perceived them inwardly. A bell went off and said I needed to investigate more, so I told myself that I needed to call and find out when this program aired and more about the program.
Since I called in to the Entertainment Department who takes care of the Program, I have set my life to waking up at 8:30AM to watch the program on Channel 18. And I watch it in its entirety. I don't get water. I don't step away from the television. And I don't really watch a lot of television, but I'm making an exception to see the program because it's great. I love the program! It's done very well. The production team, the sound team, and the editing team do a good job. I have even told all the members of my church about "A Journey through Aesthetic Realms."
And the entertainment part- I think it's phenomenal. Your poetry, Your music, Your words all being performed by the artists. I think it's phenomenal. I think You're definitely awesome! Words cannot explain or encompass what I experience when I'm watching the program. It's beyond words. It gets two thumbs up! It gets four stars! I will probably continue to watch this program for as long as it is on the air it because I am motivated by it. It's wonderful that You do so much for the planet. You donate through Your music, through Your art, through Your poetry. Your Association gets extraordinary people to get together to do benefit concerts and then You make donations available to other people who are less fortunate. I think it's awesome!

You Warmed Up Our Hearts

September 2, 1999

(Originally in Aulacese)

Dear Master,

While living in a refugee camp in Galang, Indonesia, the other residents and I received many gifts from You throughout 1994 and 1995. Although they were humble contributions, we felt Your love for the refugees in Galang as well as for humanity at large, which is still caught in the sea of the world's suffering. Each time I used a towel or enjoyed a bag of instant noodles or hot rice cereal, I thought of You.
When I came to the United States in the fall of 1998, I heard that a musical concert was being held by Your Association for the benefit of poor and sick children. I liked the idea very much. However, because I had just arrived in the U. S. with a wife and two young children, ages 11 and 12, I had no means to go to the concert. Although I could not see You in person, I was still very happy that I could watch You on television. It really warmed our hearts in this new land. You have followed the footsteps of the greatest saints to save sentient beings from this world of suffering.
With all sincerity, I would like to send You my deepest gratitude as well as that of all the world's people for providing us with spiritual guidance to pursue our deepest wishes. May God bless You with peace, health and happiness, so that You can continue to save sentient beings. Once again, please accept my gratitude.
Sincerely, Quoc Dung

Green Tea Contains Anti-Cancer Compound

U.S.A. News Team (Originally in English)

Although previous research had established that drinking more than four cups of green tea per day seemed to lower the risk of cancer, no one understood why. Recently, however, Purdue University researchers Dorothy and D. James Morre have linked EGCg, a compound found in green tea, with anti-cancer effects. Their research results were presented on December 14, 1999 at the 38th annual meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology in San Francisco.
According to their study, EGCg inhibits the activity of tNOX, an enzyme required for cancer cell growth. When tNOX activity is inhibited, cancerous cells eventually die. The researchers also found that while EGCg can kill cultured cancer cells, it has no ill effects on healthy cells.
In addition, the researchers discovered that green tea leaves are rich in the anti-cancer compound EGCg. Their findings suggest that the cancer-fighting properties of EGCg, along with its high concentrations in green tea, might explain why drinking more than four cups of green tea a day can slow or even prevent the growth of cancer cells in the body.
